Description
The Challenge Group challenge was "Place or Country of Origin" for April. My Father was 100% Ukrainian so I have always identified with Ukraine as part of my origins. So this was my response to the Challenge. I feel the people of the Ukraine are represented by the beautiful woman and they are just like us she is dressing to go out putting on her golden Slippers The sunflower is behind her and the wheat beside her because the Ukraine is the Breadbasket of the region. The crucifix in the center above her is an Eastern Orthodox cross, the three-barred cross has a special position in Ukrainian religious life. It is composed of a vertical limb & two parallel horizontal arms, plus a third arm in a slanting position. The top bar signifies the inscription INRA, the main bar to which Jesus's hands are fixed, the bottom crossbeam represents the footrest which prolongs the torture. The side to Christ's right is higher, slanting upward toward heaven for the penitent thief, St Dismas, who was crucified on Jesus' right, but downward toward impenitent thief Gestas.
