Description
15"x22" watercolor painting of a Great Blue Heron.
I was walking on the breakwater alongside the Dunedin Causeway when I saw this Great Blue Heron. I began shooting photos as I got up closer I noticed the bird was not flying off which is their nature when humans get to close. He barely moved as I focused on the bird in frame I noticed his legs were in a tangled up mess of fishing line and it was hindering the bird from walking or flying. So I called the local bird rescue to come help free him. After an hour or so they came and got him and untangled his legs and set him free. When I painted this painting I put the feet with the tangled mess onto the white mat that surrounded the painting to draw attention to the birds plight.

A beautiful, colorful painting of the GBH, Susan. I have, more times than I care to remember, seen birds with fishing line wrapped around some part of their body or embedded fish hooks with line. Yes it's an awful thing to see, haunting... but this guy was freed they even took him in to be checked and weighed to make sure he was ok. I jumped with joy. Thank you for the Feature.
